Eschbach is blooming: Gardener creates biodiversity in the business park!
The city of Eschbach boasts a green renovation! Gardener Jeannine Bernhard, 43 years old and works in the Breisgau business park, would like to increase biodiversity with a newly designed perennial bed. Your tool for work? A cargo bike with a trailer that is perfectly equipped with everything you need for maintaining public green spaces. From the watering hose to the pruning shears – the trailer can even transport two lawn mowers or one cubic meter of green cuttings. A good hand for sustainable beautification!
Bernhard is currently active weeding at the traffic roundabout at the Gutex wood fiber board factory. Here, the former lawn was converted into an impressive perennial bed with an area of 440 square meters. Initially removed, the bed is now in full bloom with plants such as blue meadow sage and colorful coneflower, which were planted in May.
A well thought-out concept for nature
The newly created bed is not only a beautiful sight, but also an important step towards climate adaptation and climate protection. “We integrated a special tree substrate and a layer of gravel that retains moisture,” explains the landscape gardener. She expects that after a certain amount of time, watering will no longer be necessary. She only has to make sure to remove unwanted wild herbs every 14 days. The dead plants are left standing in winter and are cut back in spring.
In total, Jeannine Bernhard already looks after 10 to 15 perennial beds in the business park and is part of a dedicated team of five people. Their goal: a harmonious combination of aesthetics and ecological responsibility.
