New 380 kV power line between Offenburg and Meißenheim approved!
Freiburg Regional Council approves the construction of a new 380 kV power line for a secure energy supply in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.

New 380 kV power line between Offenburg and Meißenheim approved!
Progress in energy infrastructure is making great strides in the Offenburg-Meißenheim region. The Freiburg regional council recently issued the planning approval decision for the replacement of the 380 kV overhead line between Offenburg and Meißenheim. This new power line is part of a comprehensive improvement to the 380 kV network, stretching over 120 kilometers from Daxlanden (Karlsruhe) to Eichstetten (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald). The new building is not just a piece of technology, but also essential for ensuring a stable power supply in the future.
In order to master the challenges of the energy transition, the new overhead line was specially designed to avoid network overloads on the one hand and to cover the increased energy requirements on the other. The existing 220 kV overhead line will be replaced by this new modern solution, designed for two 380 kV circuits. A total of 43 new masts will be installed to increase capacity and sustainably strengthen the region's infrastructure. The route is gentle on settlements and the landscape and will largely be laid out outside the current 220 kV route, reports the Ortenau city newspaper.
Information for citizens
The public's willingness to participate is very important. Parallel to the interpretation of the plans, a consultation of those responsible for public affairs takes place, which involves a large number of institutions such as authorities, municipalities and associations. This is to ensure that all relevant voices are heard and that plans can be adjusted if necessary.
A look at the energy supply
In addition, effective control mechanisms are necessary to ensure grid stability, especially at times when inputs and withdrawals may be unbalanced. With the replacement of the overhead line, a further building block has been laid to overcome these challenges and stabilize the security of supply in the region and beyond.
The resolution and the associated planning documents will be published on the Freiburg Regional Council website from July 9th to 22nd. This gives everyone interested the opportunity to delve deeper into the details of the project and to actively participate in the process.
