Shaping the future: Science Week and new energy projects in Stuttgart!
The energy transition continues to gain momentum! Today, October 14, 2025, SWR's PopUp Studio starts in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, which was launched in collaboration with the research platform CORRECTIV. This initiative will last a week and is dedicated to the topics of heat transition, heating and heating. A topic that is not only the talk of the day, but could also set the course for the future of our energy supply. SWR reports.
At the same time, the energy supplier EnBW is opening the gates to its new solar park in Aach, in the Konstanz district, today. This sets innovative standards by using battery storage made from electric car batteries - a real step in the right direction for the use of renewable energy. With projects like this, it becomes clear that integrating renewable energy sources into our systems is essential, and the topics covered in the PopUp Studio are more than relevant.
The city of the future in focus
And what's going on in Karlsruhe? The third “Science Week” begins there today and lasts until October 19, 2025. Under the motto “City of the Future”, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is back with a jam-packed program. During this week, visitors can look forward to over 100 events, from lectures and open labs to movie nights and experiments, aimed at all ages. KIT reports.
A very special highlight is the opening lecture by Sabine Knierbein, which will take place today at 7:30 p.m. in the KIT Audimax. Not only is the topic of urban design discussed here, but innovative ideas for sustainable development, smart mobility and fair coexistence in urban spaces are also presented. There is huge interest and more than half of the events are aimed at children and young people in order to introduce them to the topics of urban planning and shaping the future.
Energy and future planning
In the context of the energy transition, the system integration of renewable energies is particularly emphasized. As Fraunhofer reports, making the use of electrical energy more flexible is a key requirement in this phase. From residual electricity generation to combined heat and power to adapting loads to the electricity supply - the challenges are diverse and exciting.
KIT also offers special workshops, panel discussions and participatory activities to actively involve citizens in the design of their city. There are numerous offers, especially for school classes, such as exploration tours on topics relating to autonomous cars and solar power plants. This enables the transfer of knowledge in a lively way and prepares younger people for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
The Science Week in Karlsruhe is not only a program full of interesting events, but also a platform that gives citizens the opportunity to actively engage with the topic and develop their own ideas. The connection to current energy projects, as discussed in the PopUp Studio in Stuttgart, is clear here and makes it clear that the future is in our hands.
