Afterwork lectures on climate protection: This is how we shape our future!
The challenges of climate protection are the focus of a new, exciting afterwork online lecture series that will be launched by the organizers in September and October 2025. Like the page Black Forest messenger reports, everyone interested, including working people, students, parents and pensioners, can look forward to informative evenings. The lectures begin on September 18th and take place from 6 p.m.
It is particularly important to discuss the topics of sustainable construction, biodiversity and nature conservation as well as flood protection. In addition to the insights into tourism and land consumption, there will also be competition for space. These issues are not only relevant but also impact our daily lifestyle and decisions we have to make.
Diverse topics for a sustainable life
The lecture series covers the following exciting topics:
- 18. September: Nachhaltiges Bauen im Schwarzwald und anderswo
- 23. September: Biodiversität und Naturschutz in der Kommune und im Garten
- 30. September: Hochwasserschutz trifft Schwammdorf
- 1. Oktober: Konkurrenz um die Fläche
- 7. Oktober: Tourismus und Klimaschutz
All lectures will be conveniently broadcast online via Webex, and there will be plenty of space for exchange and questions. Participation is free, but you must register in advance via the website leader-heckengaeu.de necessary.
Focus on land use
An urgent topic that will be addressed particularly in connection with the lecture program on October 1st is land use for settlements and transport. This discussion has its origins in the 1970s, as the website of RE-WA sketched. The daily increase in settlement areas in Baden-Württemberg is currently around 5 hectares, while there are politically agreed goals to reduce this increase to 2.5 hectares.
At the event, the chairman of the State Nature Conservation Association, Gerhard Bronner, will shed light on the mechanisms that led to the current situation and present possible measures to combat land consumption. Particularly interesting is the discussion about concepts such as “grandchildren’s properties” and “opera apartments”, which are intended to offer innovative approaches to land use.
Climate change-adapted urban design
In order to meet the urban climate challenges, climate change-adapted urban design plays a crucial role. Like on the side of Fraunhofer IBP As described, cities are particularly susceptible to overheating, which is not only due to the sealed surfaces, but also because buildings make air circulation more difficult. Measures such as the creation of green spaces and fresh air corridors are essential to create cool retreats in urban areas.
The Fraunhofer Institute supports municipalities, cities and urban planners through evidence-based planning. Urban climate simulations help to evaluate the impact of adaptation measures in advance. A significant direction is to improve the quality of life and the environment through innovative technologies for urban surfaces.
Overall, the upcoming series of lectures clearly shows that climate protection is an undertaking for society as a whole - it is important to develop common ideas and solutions in order to shape a sustainable future.
