Hot to read: Reading campaign for elementary school students in Altensteig starts!

Things are about to get really hot in Altensteig: The reading campaign “Hot for Reading” begins on July 15, 2025, which encourages elementary school students and fifth graders to read. The city library has come up with something special for this: from this day until October 2, 2025, children are allowed to borrow books and enter them in a logbook. For every book they read, young readers can answer questions and secure stamps and tickets for the big raffle. And the prices are impressive: you can get tickets for the Polarion in Monbachtal and the Experimenta Freudenstadt. Black Forest messenger reports about this great incentive, because the main prize is an overnight stay in the Schlossberg tree house - a real adventure for all little bookworms!

The campaign, which is taking place for the 16th time, is supported in 131 libraries from 111 municipalities in the Stuttgart administrative region. “Hot on Reading” offers free access to all library club members and thus captivates young and old readers alike. There is even an additional program for adults in 29 libraries. RP Baden-Württemberg explains that the period of the summer reading campaign extends from July 14th to September 27th, 2025.

The conditions of participation and the supporting program

A look at the general conditions shows that the choice of books is left to the children. However, they should be real books - comics, manga or foreign language literature are not allowed. Books as e-books from the eBib online library are also included in the campaign, which significantly increases the selection. If you don't have a library card yet, you can get a free trial card and dive straight into your reading adventure.

Particularly pleasing: 129 children had already registered before the campaign began - despite the library's summer break, which lasts from August 8th to September 8th. The exciting award ceremony will take place in the Citizens' Hall of the town hall on October 10th. All participants can look forward to consolation prizes, so no one goes away empty-handed.

Promoting reading in society at large

But “Hot on Reading” is not just a local event. It reflects the nationwide efforts to promote reading, which offer a variety of activities for children and young people. In addition to reading nights and reading festivals, reading competitions and competitions are organized to make reading tasty.
