Fighting against fake news: SPD invites you to an exciting discussion in Nagold!
An exciting event is just around the corner! On November 10, 2025 at 7 p.m. the Nagold Restaurant Forum will say: “Social Media & Democracy – How we can strengthen political communication”. Organized by the SPD Nagold and the SPD district association Calw, this event offers a platform for important discussions about the political challenges in the digital world.
The event is led by Robin Mesarosch, a former SPD member of the Bundestag and social media expert who has a considerable reach on social media with over 100,000 followers. Mesarosch will talk about how social media influences democracy and what measures can be taken to increase trust in political processes. He will also address topics such as the visibility of political content and the fight against misinformation and disinformation. These are pressing issues, especially at a time when fake news and hate speech are increasingly shaping our political life - there is a lot to discuss here!
A space for exchange and discussion
The event is open to the public and free of charge, making it an excellent opportunity to discuss the challenges of the digital public sphere. Daniela Steinrode, SPD state parliament candidate for the Calw district, will moderate the evening and provide space for questions and discussions. A good place not only to get information, but also to be able to actively help shape it.
The topics that Mesarosch addresses are highly topical. While social media has the potential to revolutionize political communication, it also brings with it numerous risks. Combating targeted disinformation and promoting an objective, well-founded discussion of political issues are the central concerns of the event. The influence of platforms such as Facebook and Twitter on democratic processes is questioned and illuminated, which is also of great importance for many citizens.
The digital space should not be seen as a threat, but rather as an opportunity to rethink political participation. Mesarosch, with his background and knowledge, brings a breath of fresh air to the discussion and will certainly provide some interesting, thought-provoking perspectives.
Take the opportunity and join us on November 10th to find out how we can tackle the challenges of the digital world together. You can find out more on the website of the Schwarzwälder Bote.
With these impulses, the organizers want to make it clear that, despite all the difficulties, the potential of social media to strengthen democracy should not be underestimated. And that is ultimately a good deal for the future of our political culture.
