Digital Day in Freiburg: Discover media competence in a playful way!

On Friday, June 27, 2025, Freiburg will become a digital meeting place. The city library at Münsterplatz invites all citizens to the digital day under the motto “Participate, discuss and experience”. This exciting event offers a wide range of activities of all kinds and is accessible free of charge. From hands-on stations to gaming and interactive programming games, there is something to discover for all age groups. “The goal is clear: We want to strengthen media literacy and make people aware of the opportunities and challenges of digitalization,” said the organizers. Anyone interested can immerse themselves in numerous offers completely free of charge. This underlines the committed initiative that was launched by the city of Freiburg and numerous partners to promote digital participation, such as RegioTrends reports.

The digital day enjoys lively participation. Following on from various offers that had already taken place in advance - for example at the Barcamp in the Lokhalle creative park at the freight station, where everything revolved around cyber security - it is clear that the topics surrounding digital education and security are generating great interest. Here, the journalist Eva Wolfangel gave a groundbreaking lecture that sparked enthusiasm and the joy of discussion. The city library is also involved with creative programs that took place from June 16th to 18th, where children and young people had the opportunity to program their own computer games, according to Freiburg.de.

At the Digital Day itself, visitors can expect a jam-packed program with a variety of highlights:

• Digitale Sprechstunde: Hilfe im digitalen Alltag (14 bis 16 Uhr, Hauptstelle am Münsterplatz 17)
• Gaming mit dem Freiburg eSports Verein (15 bis 18 Uhr, Zweigstelle Haslach)
• Medienvelo: Trickfilme gestalten und mit Greenscreen reisen (15 bis 18 Uhr, vor der Mediothek im Rieselfeld)
• VR-Brille: Eintauchen in Ausbildungsberufe (15 bis 17 Uhr, Eingangsbereich Hauptstelle am Münsterplatz)
• Leuchtende Grußkarten gestalten mit den Experinauten (16 bis 18 Uhr, Hauptstelle am Münsterplatz 17)
• Workshop zu KI-Bildgeneratoren (16 bis 18 Uhr, Hauptstelle am Münsterplatz 17)
• Gespräch über generative Verfahren in Computer-Musik und Kunst (17 bis 18.30 Uhr, Hauptstelle am Münsterplatz 17)
• Impro Machine: Improvisationstheater mit ChatGPT (19.30 bis 21.30 Uhr, Hauptstelle am Münsterplatz 17)

The animation project in the glass house in Rieselfeld and the gaming offer will be particularly exciting for the younger participants. The offer for adults, which deals with computer-generated music, is sure to attract many interested people. As previously mentioned, all offerings on June 27th are free of charge, further improving accessibility.

A sign of digital participation

Digital Day is part of a Germany-wide campaign supported by the “Digital for All” alliance, which brings together more than 25 organizations for digital participation. The Freiburg Digital Day is organized by the Digital and IT Office (DIGIT) of the city of Freiburg, in close cooperation with the Freiburg City Library, the KI Alliance BW and Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co.
