Seniors in Baltmannsweiler urgently need IT help for digital projects!
In the tranquil Baltmannsweiler you can often hear cries for help these days. The Senior Citizens Council is looking for IT experts who are willing to support older people in using digital devices such as computers, smartphones and tablets. This initiative is urgently needed as the age-related retirement of some specialists has led to bottlenecks in the range of courses on offer. “We have been offering courses, individual lessons and consultations since 2008, but now the lack of qualified helpers is causing us problems,” explains a member of the seniors’ council. Anyone interested can contact Alfons Feichtner or Bernd Heugel directly in order to continue to maintain the valuable offer and to make it easier for seniors to access the digital world. The contact points can be reached on the telephone numbers 0 71 53 / 4 12 07 or 0 71 53 / 4 20 21.
There is a well-equipped training room in the Hohengehren elementary school, which has 12 laptops, speakers and projectors. The space is available to continue refreshing and sharing technical knowledge.
Diverse support for seniors
The need for technical support for older people is not limited to Baltmannsweiler. Numerous initiatives offer help far beyond the city limits. The platform computerhilfe-fuer-senioren.de has made it its mission to support seniors in the digital world. The services offered include not only advice and training, but also repairs and installations. Care is taken to ensure that the explanations are clear and understandable so that seniors can use modern technology with confidence.
There are around 400 local senior internet initiatives throughout Germany that pursue similar goals to the projects digital-kompass.de describes. These initiatives are intended to reduce fears and create experiences to promote digital participation. There are a variety of offers, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, including the Forum for Senior Work NRW and DigitalCheck NRW, which specifically aims to strengthen media literacy.
Bridging the digital divide together
Especially in times when digital communication and Internet access are becoming more and more part of everyday life, it is important not to lose sight of the older generation. Programs such as the senior media mentor program or the network for senior internet initiatives in Baden-Württemberg show that there are many ways to support older people in their digital participation. The projects pursue the common goal of seniors being safe and self-confident in the digital world.
Local support and exchange between the various initiatives are crucial in order to make it easier for older people to access the digital infrastructure and to integrate it into modern everyday life. Therefore every helping hand is welcome. Whether you're an IT professional or just want to get involved, come along and help bridge the digital divide!
