Freudenstadt: City Hall racers rock the city cycling with 31 participants!
On October 2, 2025, the most successful participants in this year's city cycling were honored in Freudenstadt. The event took place in the festive setting of the Great Hall of the town hall and was led by Mayor Adrian Sonder. This year, the city had a total of 496 cyclists who collectively covered 120,583 kilometers and were able to save around 20 tons of carbon dioxide. This impressively shows how much energy and commitment is put into promoting cycling. The campaign not only aims to reduce CO2 emissions, but also makes a valuable contribution to climate protection and relieving road traffic, as the Federal Environment Agency emphasizes.
The “Rathausrenner” team was particularly successful, reaching second place in the team rankings with 31 participants. This committed group cycled an impressive 10,984 kilometers, impressively showing that you can do a lot for the environment in everyday life. At the top is the VfL Freudenstadt team with 12,360 kilometers, followed by Wolf Production Systems, who covered 10,059 kilometers. The results are not only motivating, they also show how many people are actively committed to climate protection.
Praise for the best cyclists
The award for the best individual cyclists was another highlight of the honor. Timo Tiburski took first place among the men with 1,958 kilometers. For the women, Cornelia Schatz was happy about the title with 1,308 kilometers cycled. The best schools in the competition are also worth mentioning: The Falkenrealschule came in first place with 14,684 kilometers and 83 participants, followed by the Kepler-Gymnasium and the Free Waldorf School. This commitment is important not only for the individuals, but also for the entire community.
This year the Freudenstadt district took part in city cycling for the fourth time. From June 29th to July 19th, all municipalities in the district collected kilometers and took the opportunity to actively participate. District Administrator Dr. Klaus Michael Rückert took over the patronage and called for bicycles to be actively integrated into everyday life. The campaign is a great opportunity to encourage people to switch to cycling. In order to motivate participants, the “Movers” competition for schools was also introduced in 2025, which encourages young cyclists to stay active. Information about registration was available on the website Kreis Freudenstadt.
City cycling in the spirit of climate protection
The city cycling competition, organized by Climate Alliance since 2008, is enjoying growing popularity. Every year, numerous communities take part in the campaign and collect kilometers to experience the benefits of cycling. This year, around 300,000 people from almost 900 cities cycled 60 million kilometers together, further reinforcing the idea of community and the focus on sustainability. According to Umweltbundesamt, an improvement in the cycling infrastructure is necessary in order to sustainably promote the switch to cycling.
In conclusion, it can be said: City cycling in Freudenstadt was once again an impressive sign of climate protection. Whether in everyday life on the way to work, school or shopping, cycling not only brings fresh air and exercise, but also a healthy dose of environmental awareness. To all cyclists in the city: keep it up!
