Heidelberg Christmas Market 2025: Mulled wine, carousels and ice cream fun!

The scent of roasted almonds and mulled wine wafts through the festively decorated streets of Heidelberg. Today, on December 4th, 2025, the Heidelberg Christmas market has already opened its doors to visitors and is attracting visitors to the old town with a colorful program. Against the historic backdrop of the city, the market presents itself in all its splendor across several attractive locations.

From the South Courier we learn that the market extends over Karlsplatz, Kornmarkt, Universitätsplatz and Bismarckplatz. Here you can find handicrafts, local delicacies and the opportunity to stroll in the winter forest between the festively decorated stalls.

Opening times and attractions

The festive season in the heart of Heidelberg is all about communal experiences. The opening hours of the Christmas market are Sunday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday until 10 p.mDecember 22, 2025the market is open. The winter forest at Bismarckplatz will also remain open until January 1st, 2026, except for December 24th.

The ice rink on Karlsplatz, which attracts many visitors, is particularly in focus. It is not only considered one of the most beautiful in Germany, but also offers a wonderful view of the picturesque castle ruins. Heidelberg Marketing highlights that the ice rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with special exceptions on public holidays.

A place for the whole family

The market is also a place of family happiness: a historic carousel on Universitätsplatz and a children's railway in the Kornmarkt delight the little guests. Santa's house on the market square invites you to support local children's projects for a donation of 8 euros - a nice way to do good and immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit at the same time.

The atmospheric atmosphere of the festively designed huts, which are distributed throughout the anatomy garden and the various squares, leaves nothing to be desired. More than 100 fir trees at the Kornmarkt and the wooden Christmas town create an incomparable ambience that invites you to linger.

Arrival and traffic routing

Since an increased number of visitors is to be expected, we recommend traveling by public transport. The Rhine-Neckar Insider have taken a close look at the adapted traffic routing, and parking options are also available, for example in the car park at Karlsplatz. The access routes through the old town are well signposted for pedestrians and cyclists.

The anticipation of Advent is palpable in Heidelberg, and the combination of festive lighting and regional delicacies creates an attractive experience for all the senses. A visit to the Christmas market is definitely worth it to take in the magical atmosphere in the old town.
