Lars Stindl: A cult player looks at his new life after his career!
A new chapter in Lars Stindl's life: The long-time professional and ex-national player ended his active football career in the summer of 2024. After over a decade in the Bundesliga and a successful time in the national team, he is now concentrating on his new challenges. In an interview with baden24.de, Stindl talked about his future plans and talked about the changes that come with the end of his career.
The Speyer native, who was born on August 26, 1988, can look back on an impressive career. His sporting journey started at TSV Wiesental and led via Karlsruher SC, where he played in both the U and the men's teams, to Hannover 96 and Borussia Mönchengladbach. With the latter he celebrated numerous successes, including winning the 2017 Confederations Cup with the German national team, where he scored the decisive goal in the final against Chile. Wikipedia shows that Stindl scored 62 goals in a total of 222 games for Gladbach and was considered a cult player during his time in the Bundesliga.
A sad farewell
In his conversation about the transition to the “new” life, Stindl expresses a mixture of gratitude and melancholy. “It was an incredible time that I’m proud of,” he says. Despite the long and successful career, the path was not always easy. Injuries such as a ruptured syndesmotic ligament that cost him the 2018 World Cup and a broken tibia in 2019 have meant he has had to battle setbacks in recent years. These experiences also connect him with other former football professionals who – as Sport Sky shows – had to leave active business early on, often for health reasons.
Stindl made one final appearance at his original club, Karlsruher SC, where he signed a one-year contract. After this season it was clear to him that it was time to hang up his boots. With over 350 Bundesliga games under his belt and as captain of Hannover 96 and Borussia Mönchengladbach, he left a lasting impression on German football.
A look forward
He is now looking to the future, where he will work as an assistant coach for the German U20 national team from the 2024/2025 season. This new role means the opportunity for Stindl to pass on his knowledge and experience in football to the next generation. Stindl is also socially committed, including as a sponsor of the “School without Racism – School with Courage” project and also supports the social project “We help Africa”.
In addition, he will be active as an expert and co-commentator on football broadcasts, which will bring him closer to the action again. These diverse new roles promise not only work, but also the chance to continue to exert his influence in the sport and give back what he has learned on the pitch.
With his active career behind him, Lars Stindl is now planning to expand his various commitments and is committed to shaping his new life full of passion. It is clear that this man will make a difference not only on the field but also outside of it.
