Tragic truck accident on the Walldorfer Kreuz: driver dies in flames!

Walldorf, Deutschland - on June 20, 2025, around 12:30 p.m., there was a tragic accident on Walldorfer Kreuz between the A5 and A6, in which a truck caught fire and the driver lost his life. The truck was on the A5 in the direction of Heidelberg when it lost control due to an unknown cause, crashed into the guardrails several times and finally came to a stop across the road. The following fire spread quickly and led to massive smoke development, which significantly impaired the view. Like SWR came too late for the driver that was trapped in the cab than the emergency services arrived.

The fire of the truck led to both the A5 and the A6 fully blocked in both directions. Down -dripping, burning bitumen set fire to parts of the road and also the adjacent green strips, which also tightened the situation. While the A5 in the direction of Karlsruhe and the A6 towards Mannheim could later be released again, the A5 in the direction of Heidelberg remains closed. Heidelberg24 check and the investigation into the course of the accident are still in progress.

traffic gap and traffic jam

On the A5 towards Heidelberg, the longest traffic jam formed at about twelve kilometers. The traffic conditions in the evening have already had a major impact on the daily Traffic flow.
