The signatories to the agreement are the state of Baden-Württemberg, the districts of Heidenheim and Ostalbkreis, and the city of Ulm. The expansion of the Brenzbahn, a single-track and currently non-electrified line that connects Aalen, Heidenheim, Langenau and Ulm, is seen as crucial for the transport axis in this region. Around 13,000 people use this route every working day, which only underlines the need for expansion.

Planned improvements

The planned expansion not only includes an increase in train frequency to hourly, but also a partial extension of the regional S-Bahn lines. Additional train stops are to be created in Ulm-Messe, Aalen Süd and Oberkochen Süd.
