Heidenheimer Naturtheater triumphs at the State Amateur Theater Prize!
The stage is set and the spotlight is on the winners! On the occasion of this year's State Amateur Theater Prize (Lamathea), the outstanding ensembles from Baden-Württemberg were honored. From a total of 151 applications, an independent jury of experts selected 17 productions for nomination in six different categories. This not only pleases the award winners, but also culture enthusiasts in the region. Schwäbische.de reports that the award ceremony will take place as part of a four-day award winners festival on October 5, 2025 in Heidenheim.
The categories include indoor theater, theater with children and young people, open-air theater, dialect theater, theater with a socio-cultural background as well as puppet and figure theater. A prize winner was chosen in each of these categories. A particularly warm applause goes to the Naturtheater Heidenheim e.V., which received an award for its production “Annie”. Other winners are:
- Innenraumtheater: Amateurtheater Die Koralle e.V. (Bruchsal) mit „Beziehungsweise – Loriot“
- Theater mit Kindern und Jugendlichen: Junges Theater der Waldbühne (Sigmaringendorf) mit „Letzte Hoffnung Schweiz“
- Mundarttheater: Deuchelrieder Theater e.V. (Wangen im Allgäu) mit „Grattlerblues“
- Theater mit soziokulturellem Hintergrund: Performance Theater Heidelberg e.V. mit „Labeled – ein Sittenstück“
- Puppen- und Figurentheater: Theater Kübel wie Eimer (Inzigkofen-Vilsingen) mit „Mach (k)ein Theater!“
A prize with tradition and meaning
The Lamathea, which is awarded once every two years, is the only prize awarded by a state government in Germany that is dedicated to amateur theater and civic engagement. State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun emphasizes the enormous importance of this theater work for cultural life. The competition is announced by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Art in cooperation with the state government and by State Association of Amateur Theater Baden-Württemberg e.V. organized.
Particularly pleasing: Each prize category is endowed with 2,000 euros, which is welcome support for many amateur theaters to further finance their creative projects. The state-run Toto-Lotto GmbH contributes to the financing by providing half of the prize money. In addition, a special prize for life's work and civic engagement will be awarded, which this year goes to Ulrike and Peter M. Wolko from the theater “Die Spur” in Karlsruhe.
