Fire brigade operation in Heilbronn: City gallery cleared after false alarm!

On Monday morning the fire brigade had to move into the center of Heilbronn. The reason was a fire alarm in the city gallery, which initially caused a stir. Jürgen Vogt, press spokesman for the Heilbronn fire department, reported that no additional reinforcement was requested from the control center, which strongly suggests a suspected false alarm. The city gallery was evacuated as a precaution while the emergency services got an overview of the situation. Fortunately, the city gallery was able to reopen as usual quickly.

A fire alarm can quickly cause nervousness in such moments. It is all the more important that fire engines can get to the danger spots quickly at any time in the event of a fire or disaster. The regulations for fire areas are of crucial importance here. In a new standard, DIN 14090, which was published in February 2024, the requirements for entrances and driveways were revised. These regulations ensure that fire brigade access is free and accessible at all times.

Important requirements for fire department access

According to the amended DIN 14090, companies are obliged to plan and design fire brigade areas accordingly. The new requirements include, among others:

  • Eine Mindesthöhe und -breite der Zufahrten von 3,5 Metern.
  • Die angrenzenden Bauteile müssen feuerbeständig sein (F 90).
  • Bei Kurven muss ein Außenradius von mindestens 10,5 Metern gegeben sein.

The standard also contains precise specifications for the width of curves and signage. Fire department access routes must be clearly marked to ensure smooth access in the event of an emergency. Steps should not be higher than 0.08 meters and the parking areas for fire engines must be at least 84 square meters.

In view of the recent events in the Stadtgalerie, the importance of these regulations becomes clear once again. The safety of emergency services and the civilian population depends largely on compliance with such guidelines. The rapid regeneration of the city gallery is a positive sign in this respect, but regular inspection of the fire department access remains essential.
