Heat wave via Baden-Württemberg: temperatures up to 40 degrees!
Germany has a firm grip on Germany, especially in Baden-Württemberg. The current weather forecast shows that the temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days, which the region drives to the extreme in this year's heat wave. The situation on Lake Constance is particularly alarming, where the water level drops noticeably due to continuing drought. Vegetable farmers in Rhineland-Palatinate also fight dry plants, and in Saarland, the forecast temperatures are worryingly high, as tagesschau.de reported.
But not only the heat causes excitement. In Karlsruhe, a masked man in a tram with pepper spray sprayed around and injured 16 people, including twelve children and adolescents. The police continue to investigate the fleeting perpetrator.
Summer records and weather warnings
Weather expert Dominik Jung warns of the extreme temperatures that flock to our region from North Africa. The summer of 2025 has already entered history as one of the hottest. June 2024 has been the hottest since the start of recording, and the extreme weather conditions seem to be intensified. Only on June 24th that pleasant temperatures between 24 and 30 degrees were measured, while the heat wave has passed into fluctuations between 35 and 37 degrees in the last few days. There could even be gusts on the Feldberg, like heidelberg24.de reported.
The risk of forest fire has risen sharply in many parts of Baden-Württemberg, partly at level three to four out of five. Barbecue areas in the Rhein-Neckar district are temporarily closed to minimize the risk of fire.
Climate change as a teammate
While we deal with these extreme weather conditions, climate change is a decisive factor. The global temperatures have risen by about 1.2 degrees Celsius since the 19th century, which among other things reinforced heat waves and increased the frequency of weather extremes. The water cycle is accelerated by the warming, which leads to more intensive rains and an increased risk of droughts in certain regions nzz.ch.
For many citizens and authorities, this means: act in advance and prepare for the coming summer months. It remains exciting how the climate will continue to develop and what measures have to be taken to take into account the effects of this weather extreme in the coming years. The summer lessons invite you to linger outdoors, but we should also remain vigilant and listen to nature.
