300 years of St. Jakobus Church: festive atmosphere in Eggmannsried!
On October 25, 2025, Eggmannsried experienced a very special celebration: the 300-year-old Church of St. James was duly celebrated. Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Gerhard Schneider took over the liturgical leadership of the anniversary, which began with a solemn pontifical mass and an impressive flag-raising by the local associations. The music band and the church choir provided the musical accompaniment and contributed to the festive atmosphere. What was particularly noteworthy was that the flag parade included flag delegations from music bands, the warrior club and other local associations, which underlined the community's sense of community.
The Church of St. James, a building of historical significance, was built in 1722 after the medieval St. James Church, originally mentioned in 1275, was demolished. The construction was led by the Schussenried Monastery under the then abbot Didacus Ströbele and was finally inaugurated five years later. In his sermon, Auxiliary Bishop Schneider discussed the miracle of the multiplication of bread and emphasized the importance of sharing, which was particularly moving in such a contemplative atmosphere.
Unique highlights and warm gestures
Pastor Patrick Meschenmoser and other clergy from the Bad Wurzach pastoral care unit were also among the numerous festival visitors. After the service, Felix Wild, the chairman of the parish council, surprised the auxiliary bishop with a bag of gummy bears, which he kindly shared with those present. Although the weather didn't quite cooperate, the standing reception was held in the church to strengthen and exchange ideas, which underlined the warm character of this celebration.
Another highlight took place on October 26th: The trombone quartet “Tromposi” gave a concert, accompanied by the organist Ludwig Kibler, which enriched the celebrations with a musical note and honored the cultural heritage of the community.
