Magical Christmas Garden 2025: New light magic on the island of Mainau!

This year the flower island of Mainau will once again be the magical setting for the Christmas Garden. The construction of the fifth edition has already begun and the team of up to 50 people has planned around three weeks for it. Next Wednesday, five trucks will arrive on the island with materials to prepare the spectacular illuminations. A total of 60 kilometers of power cables and eight kilometers of fairy lights will be laid to take visitors into a Christmas wonderland.

Although the route remains the same for two kilometers, the direction of travel has been changed and now runs clockwise. As part of the new attractions, the Metasequoia Alley will be designed with individual music for each tree. The romantic setting around the avenue of plane trees also creates a special atmosphere that will particularly appeal to couples.

Light shows and fairy tale world

During the preparations for the Christmas Garden, the castle and the castle lawn will be specially illuminated and redesigned. The Palm House, which was popular last year, also remains part of the event. A tour takes guests through the rose garden, which features a light fountain, and finally back to the entrance to the island. A large walk-in Christmas tree ball and angel wings provide photo moments.

A highlight this season is the fairy tale world, which is inspired by the stories of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. A fairy tale rally for children is also offered here, where little adventurers can receive a reward. In addition, children can rent hobby horses and gallop around the circular path. And that's not all - a German premiere will be the installation called "Feenlicht", which is intended to stimulate the imagination.

Family friendly activities

Santa Claus will drive through the Christmas Garden in his sleigh and present small gifts. An impressive forest of lights with 30 to five meter high light cones will offer a light choreography that will amaze both young and old visitors. In addition, family days are planned with a program for the whole family, including Lucia singing.

Last year around 80,000 people visited the Christmas Garden. A similarly high number of visitors is expected this time. The Christmas Garden has established itself as an economically important event for the travel industry. The bus companies offer overnight accommodation and there is also a connection to the train station. The Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe have also expanded their connection offers between Unteruhldingen and Meersburg, so that nothing stands in the way of attending the event.

The event is planned in close collaboration with an ornithologist and a bat representative. The managing director of C² explains that the special island location of the Mainau with its darkness provides an additional attraction for the light show.
