Advent window in Tüllingen: angels, stars and a good cause!
In the picturesque streets of Tüllingen, a district of Lörrach, a very special custom has re-established itself: The Advent window exhibition. Launched 19 years ago, this event is once again attracting numerous visitors with Christmas window motifs. 24 houses are festively decorated and invite you to stroll through the streets and admire the artistic representations.
The two village fountains are also decorated for Christmas and add to the festive atmosphere. Under the organizational umbrella of the Dülliger Schnägge association, visitors could not only marvel at the illuminated windows, but also enjoy mulled wine and children's punch. Meanwhile, collections were made for a second defibrillator. The first defibrillator is already strategically located at the old school on Dorfstrasse.
Ceremonial presentations and awards
A special highlight of the event are the contributions from the kindergarten children, who performed singing and poems at the fountain. Each child was surprised with a little surprise, which made them very enthusiastic. The Advent window for December 24th shows a moving motif: Mary, Joseph and the child in the manger, which symbolizes the true reason for Christmas.
Another highlight was the award for the most beautiful window. Window number 3 on Dorfstrasse impressed the jury and received a voucher as a prize. This year, windows were also decorated with angels, snowmen, stars and lights with a lot of creativity. Four new participants enrich the picture and show that the custom continues to grow in popularity.
A look into tradition
The tradition of Advent has its roots deep in history. Green branches, such as fir trees or mistletoe, have been symbols of hope and new life since the Middle Ages. These customs were celebrated to drive away evil spirits and to properly celebrate the Christmas season. The first Christmas tree was mentioned in 1419 in Freiburg's Heilig-Geist-Spital, at that time it was still externally decorated with apples and nuts, like the ones Planet Knowledge page reported.
Over the centuries, the Christmas tree has become a central element that can now be found in almost every living room. The family played an increasingly important role. Christmas developed into the most important festival of the year, characterized by conviviality and the exchange of gifts and wishes. In this sense, the Advent window exhibition also promotes conviviality and exchange among visitors, who come together in a festive atmosphere.
With great commitment, the members of the Dülliger Schnägge association make their contribution to preserving and promoting these wonderful Christmas traditions. Their passion and the support of the community ensure that such festivals remain an integral part of cultural life in Tüllingen.
