Modernization of the Tumringen primary school in Lörrach – invest 5.9 million euros!

It's finally starting! Construction work on comprehensive renovation is starting at the Tumringen elementary school in Lörrach. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025 after the school community moved into an interim school during the Christmas holidays, which was built with 857,000 euros. These measures are necessary to make the historic school building from 1909 fit for the future. As Lörrach reports, the modernization work should be completed by the end of 2027.

The planned renovation work is impressive: a total of 5.9 million euros is available for the comprehensive modernization. In addition to energy-saving renovations, fire protection is also a central issue, as the existing suspended ceilings are being replaced by new fire protection ceilings. In addition, the electrical installation will be completely renewed and a ventilation system with cooling will be installed. Insulating the roof and basement walls is also on the list of measures.

Modernization as an opportunity

But these are not the only improvements: the room layouts are optimized and individual rooms are enlarged without any significant structural changes being necessary. Two new dormer windows are intended to create additional space for all-day care. The school kitchen will also be expanded to meet increasing demand. The return from the interim school is planned for summer 2027, so that uninterrupted education is guaranteed.

The renovation is not only important for the elementary school. The committees voted by a large majority to support these measures, despite individual votes against them. Many recognize that the need to adapt and modernize school infrastructure is crucial not only in Lörrach, but also in many other cities. Schwarzwälder Bote emphasizes that educational institutions in Germany as a whole are under immense pressure - there will be an enormous need for renovation of around 55 billion euros in the next few years estimated.

A forward-looking approach

In view of these challenges, the project in Lörrach shows how progress in school infrastructure can be achieved with attractive framework conditions and clear planning. In Cologne, for example, multi-project management has been established for 22 school construction projects in order to use synergies and accelerate implementation. This means that those responsible are aware of the urgency and are relying on innovative approaches such as Presseportal reports. The municipal utilities of Lörrach are also showing a spirit of innovation by taking part in a feasibility study for a combined heat project.

With city initiatives such as support for the municipal building renovation offensive and the expansion of the local heating network, it is clear that the city and its committees are working resolutely to set the course for a modern and sustainable educational future. It will be interesting to see how the renovation of the Tumringen primary school will develop and what signals it will set for the entire school infrastructure in the region.
