Construction site chaos in Kornwestheim: commercial areas and traffic in danger!

In Kornwestheim, part of the Ludwigsburg district, a new construction site is currently being set up on Aldinger Straße, which will bring numerous changes and should improve the traffic situation. This extensive measure is the upcoming expansion of the “Moldengraben” industrial area.

The city of Kornwestheim has big plans to market properties in this newly designed commercial area, but the process is dragging on. Larger commercial spaces are not yet available and the project has already been delayed more than once. Although the local council unanimously passed the decision to draw up the development plan in 2022, the original schedule called for construction to be ready by 2024. The City of Kornwestheim now does not expect construction to be ready until 2027.

Construction work and traffic adjustments

A variety of challenges are crucial for construction site management. The long-distance water pipe for Lake Constance water supply, which runs diagonally through the planned area, must be relocated. The area was also cleared at the beginning of the year and large machines are in use. The total costs of the measure amount to around 2.8 million euros.

However, the construction site also brings traffic disruptions. Aldinger Straße only remains accessible in one direction and traffic jams are to be expected. Diversions will be signposted on the B27 once the replacement building is completed. The city has also announced that new canals for district heating, wastewater and rainwater will be installed to improve the infrastructure.

The Great Pflugfelder Bridge

But that is not the only construction site in Kornwestheim. The new construction of the Great Pflugfelder Bridge also causes restrictions. The City of Kornwestheim reported that the closures of Westrandstrasse and Heinkelstrasse took place between July 7th and 17th. The lifting of the prefabricated bridge parts is already planned for the weekend of April 26th and 27th, 2025 and July 12th, 2025. Road construction work is also expected from the beginning of 2026.

The new traffic adjustments offer, among other things, the possibility of a one-way street regulation from south to north as well as alternative access to the commercial areas via the B27a. The bridge work is expected to be completed in early 2027.

The complex land use in Kornwestheim shows how important effective construction site management is. The challenges are diverse and concern areas such as planning and approval, traffic management as well as environmental and noise protection.
