Kangaroos disappoint in front of 820 fans: defeat against Ludwigsburg!

The BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen had to admit defeat last Saturday in the home game against PORSCHE BBA Ludwigsburg with 64:86. In front of 820 spectators, the encounter initially promised to be an exciting encounter as the Kangaroos started with a red balance on the pitch and took an 11-2 lead. But the momentum quickly fizzled out and Ludwigsburg managed to turn things around and end the first quarter with a 21:18 lead.

The first signs of a comeback came from captain Jannik Westermeir, who equalized to 24:24 in the second quarter. But the team from Ludwigsburg took advantage of their chance and extended their lead to six points at halftime. Head coach Emanuel Richter then tried to counter with a zone defense, but it did not have the desired effect. A key scene occurred in the 28th minute when Brian Dawson missed a layup and in return Ludwigsburg hit a three-point shot.

Weaknesses of Kangaroos

In the fourth quarter, Ludwigsburg increased the pace and showed their dominance, especially through Marco Masic, who drew attention with two dunkings and two three-pointers. The Kangaroos had increasing difficulty creating free throws and also made a number of bad passes. Assistant coach Martin Jankov noted that ten fewer rebounds and 21 turnovers do not necessarily mean a home win.

BG Hessing's best throwers were Richardson with 16 and Dawson with 12 points, while Ludwigsburg's Masic was the game winner with 21 points. Managing director Wayne Chico Pittman was disillusioned and said: “The PRO B is very strong this year, we were not able to live up to our potential.” It remains to be seen whether the Kangaroos can turn things around on the road against Bayern Munich on November 4th.

Youngsters in basketball

Aside from the game, there is also exciting news about promoting young talent in basketball. The Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT) has created an informative infographic on the promotion of young competitive sports in Germany. These fact sheets, which were developed in collaboration with the respective leading associations, show the funding structures throughout Germany. Basketball-Bund.de reports on the objective of the infographics, which aim to represent complex structures simply and visually.

Adam Ligocki, the sporting director of the German Basketball Federation, emphasizes how important this information is for athletes, coaches and clubs. Thanks to these initiatives, the long path from young athletes to successful professionals can be better understood.

For BG Hessing, this means also focusing on its own youth work in order to be better able to cope with future challenges. This becomes even more relevant after the BG's second team lost in the regional league against VfL Treuchtlingen 73:76 despite a 22-point lead.
