Duisburg leads the third division: first win after five games!

On Friday evening the time had come: MSV Duisburg took back the lead in the third division with a 2-1 win over Waldhof Mannheim. With this vital success, the team was finally able to end its negative streak of five games without a win, which most recently included a painful 1:3 defeat against the Lions of Sixty Munich. Now Duisburg proudly gets points 27, 28 and 29, which gives new inspiration to their dreams of the autumn championship.

After the game, team captain Joshua Bitter was proud of his team and praised the dominant first half. The goals came from Noß (20th minute) and Bitter himself (69th minute), before Boyd scored the next goal for Mannheim in the 85th minute. Around 22,241 spectators created an atmospheric backdrop in the stadium and celebrated the important victory of a team that had recently been under a lot of pressure.

A look at the table

The overview shows how the table currently looks. Duisburg leads the rankings while other teams struggle with pressure. For example, 1. FC Saarbrücken is now under enormous pressure after going six games without a win. Coach Alois Schwartz expressed frustration and spoke of a “simply shitty” situation before the upcoming home game against the still winless promoted Havelse.

The look ahead

On Sunday, Jahn Regensburg will take on Sixty Munich in the Bayern derby. Coach Markus Kauczinski is expecting a real invasion of over 4,000 fans from Giesing - despite only 1,800 regularly sold tickets. We have an exciting duel ahead of us and the atmosphere will almost take on that of a home game. But the Regensburg line-up will also have to take into account the absence of Tunay Deniz due to injury.

All of these developments in the third division make it clear: anything is possible this season, and even a single win can breathe new life into the team. Duisburg have shown that they are capable of fighting back, while other teams like Saarbrücken are in danger of getting stuck in the relegation battle. Where the journey will take remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the third division remains exciting as ever. Take a look at the current developments in the table kicker.de.
