Offenburg's fire department celebrates friendship with Lons: culinary delights and fun!

A special kind of meeting took place on the second weekend of October 2023, when the Offenburg fire department visited its sister city Lons-le-Saunier in the French Jura. The city of Offenburg has maintained this friendly relationship since 1959, and the fire department plays an important role in maintaining this partnership. A colorful program awaited the visitors from eastern France, offering both exchange and cultural experiences.

The reception in the new fire station of the “Pompiers du Bassin Lédonien” was a nice start. The 15 guests who came from Lons were warmly welcomed by Bernhard Denne, the deputy fire brigade commander, and department commander Marco Dürr. A lively exchange between the German and French comrades immediately took place, with all age groups from the youth fire brigade to the senior section being represented.

An evening full of enjoyment

The first evening was spent wine tasting in the picturesque Château Chalon, followed by dinner together. This opportunity was used not only to enjoy culinary delights but also to deepen the bonds between the firefighters. On the morning of the second day, a typical French breakfast awaited the participants, which led to an extraordinary city tour.

A city tour in groups that was reminiscent of an escape game was particularly exciting. The aim was to solve various codes and find six striking landmarks in Lons-le-Saunier. The Offenburg seniors were visibly excited about the new sights they were able to discover.

A warm farewell

After a visit to a street café in the sunny city center, there was another opportunity for personal exchange. As a farewell gift, the Offenburgers brought a culinary surprise package for all participants, a welcome souvenir of a successful visit.

The Offenburg fire department is already looking forward to their next visit to Lons-le-Saunier next year. The last few days have impressively shown how important the exchange between the two fire departments is and how much such encounters contribute to strengthening the partnership. News.de and Press portal report on this cultural exchange, which is of great importance for both the firefighters and the cities involved.
