Carsten Stahl: Children protect against bullying and violence - his struggle!

Ostalbkreis, Deutschland - In recent years, the topic of child protection has gained increasing importance in society. Carsten Stahl, known for his extensive activities against bullying, is committed to children's rights across Germany. In his dual understanding of roles as a victim and perpetrator of bullying, he experienced the fainting and anger that many parents feel when their children are victims of bullying. "It is non -negotiable that child protection comes first," says Stahl, who, as the founder of the citizens' initiative "Stops bullying" and initiator of the alliance, takes child protection to the public and takes measures to protect children from violence and abuse. In the RTL2 series "Private detectives in action" he talks to students about social problems and bullying.

But what are the challenges of child protection? According to the current data from the German Youth Institute (DJI), the cases of child neglect and abuse in Germany accept frightening dimensions. Even if the sensitivity of society is growing, the number of minors concerned is still high. Digitization that produces new forms of mental and sexualized violence is particularly alarming. The study "Development and Effect of Protection Concepts at Schools" showed that almost half of the students: inside the 7th to 9th grades reported sexual violence last year, often by classmates: inside. Unfortunately, only 17% of schools have set up comprehensive protection concepts, which more than illustrated the need for action.

children in the danger zone

statistics show the different types of child welfare. The Federal Statistical Office differentiates between neglect, physical and psychological abuse and sexual violence. The data show that children and adolescents are often affected by several hazards at the same time, which illustrates the complexity of the topic. Here, too, there is an urgent need for action, since, for example, children and adolescents with disabilities as well as girls and young women are often victims of such attacks above average. The 7%, which reported cyberbullying in 2023, are also worrying. This includes the digital spread of threatening and defaming content that can have devastating consequences for those affected

Stahl criticizes that the school's reputation is often placed on the necessary child protection and that many existing programs are overtaken. Including the fact that two thirds of the school lines can only report on individual prevention measures. "We can no longer look away, it is our responsibility to ensure safe spaces," said Stahl. In order to ensure effective child protection, stable personnel structures, meaningful assessment instruments and effective help, as research from the DJI shows.

The way forward

Child protection in Germany is a multi -layered and challenging topic that must not be ignored. Steel and many other committed people are tirelessly committed to ensuring that bullying and violence in schools are taken seriously and that children who are in need are given the support they deserve. "Every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment", Stahl summarizes his mission and appeals to a broader social responsibility.
