Ellenberg cycles to victory: Mayor honors the best riders!
The municipality of Ellenberg pedaled hard in this year's city cycling and fought for the top position in the Ostalbkreis. Mayor Anna-Lisa Bohn recently honored the winners of the competition, which aimed to cover as many everyday journeys as possible by bike. The campaign period spanned 21 days, during which eight teams with a total of 124 cyclists did their best to increase the number of kilometers, and Ellenberg then achieved first place in the Ostalbkreis and fourth in the whole of Baden-Württemberg with an impressive 14.07 km per inhabitant. This shows that environmental and health protection has a high priority in the community, as Schwäbische Post reports.
Particularly pleasing was the award for VfB Ellenberg, which covered the most total kilometers with 9,454 kilometers driven and 56 participants. On average, members cycled 169 km per person – a real recipe for success! The MoMi cyclists were able to secure second place in the category with the most kilometers per participant with 510 km per participant and a total of 5610 km. Both clubs were honored for their achievements by the Ellwanger Rotochsenbrauerei in a celebratory ceremony.
Individual winners and other participants
The individual winners were also able to look back on impressive results. Leonhard Baumann managed an outstanding 1014 km, followed by Christian Schelhorn with 848 km and Annemarie Fuchs with 805 km. Each of them received a practical bicycle repair kit that will be of good use on future tours.
Ellenberg also offered a variety of activities during city cycling to promote cycling. Some highlights were the bike campaign days, where cyclists were rewarded with free pretzels and meat loaf cakes at various local bakeries. A guided bike tour to the Virngrund bakery and a pit stop with a bike check during the fruit and horticultural club's hocketse rounded off the program. The crowning conclusion was a blessing of bicycles at the Peasant Olympics service on June 30th. For further information and to register, those interested could visit the website Stadtradeln.
Municipal council meeting and future projects
But the activities in Ellenberg are not just limited to cycling. The local council also unanimously decided that the community will continue to purchase electricity from the provider EnBW ODR from 2026 to 2029. Electricity prices will rise from 17.87 cents per kWh net in 2025 to 21.28 cents per kWh net in 2026, which is expected to confront the municipality with an additional burden of around 8,070 euros. Also important: The renovation of the municipal roads was awarded to Geuder Straßenunterhalt GmbH for a gross amount of 22,193 euros. An area of around 5000 square meters will be processed.
It is important for the little Ellenbergers to secure their participation in the upcoming children's holiday program now. With 28 program items, the community offers more than last year. Online registration runs until July 2nd and the draw will take place on July 3rd. The program takes place daily from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from July 30th to August 8th, with bookings possible on a daily basis. Mayor Bohn has already announced that there is something for everyone here and the anticipation is increasing.
