A huge commotion around the kiosk in the Spiesel outdoor pool in Aalen is currently causing excitement among outdoor pool visitors. Stadtwerke Aalen has terminated the lease of the previous tenant, Florian Streicher, on June 30, 2025. For many visitors, this cancellation is a mystery. They find it difficult to understand why the tried and tested operator who provides appealing gastronomic offerings is suddenly thrown out the door. Loud Gmünder daily post Streicher did not receive any specific reasons for the municipal utility's decision. They justify their move with a “conceptual realignment” of the lease in order to create a more attractive gastronomic offering.
Florian Streicher himself finds the reasons too vague. His lease, he emphasizes, was already staggered according to visitor numbers and sales, and he was always trying to improve the offerings. In recent years, the municipal utilities have invested in the infrastructure of the outdoor pool and brought new ideas into play, such as a beach area or after-work cocktails. However, these suggestions were not fully utilized by Streicher. Despite regular discussions regarding the ideas, it appears that communication between the municipal utility and the tenant did not go smoothly.
New concept for the kiosk
The municipal utilities have already announced that they will re-tender the lease for the kiosk for the 2026 season. Currently, operations for the 2025 season and the offers there are not up for debate. Fortunately, bathers can still enjoy their usual catering options. The tender will ensure that no deadlines are missed and the new concept will be subject to re-evaluation, with a leasing model with revenue sharing also being an option. The aim is to create a fair and sustainable gastronomic offer that goes beyond the traditional outdoor pool delicacies City of Aalen.
The Spiesel outdoor pool has undergone a comprehensive renovation in recent years, which also included modernizing the kitchen in the kiosk portal. There is now also a spacious terrace that offers space for an expanded gastronomic offering. Stadtwerke Aalen is looking for a new tenant who will bring creativity, service orientation and hospitality into his concept. The application will be a chance for Streicher and other interested parties to prove themselves.
Outlook for the future
The future of the kiosk operation in the outdoor pool now depends on the upcoming tender. The municipal utilities are optimistic and emphasize that there have been no disputes with the current tenant so far. The collaboration was always trusting. The current tenant has the opportunity to apply for the lease again and could perhaps find a place in the Spiesel outdoor pool with a new concept and improved ideas.
As part of these changes, the municipal utilities hope to promote a collaborative partnership that will have a positive impact on the dining experience in the outdoor pool.
