Last Saturday afternoon, at 12:06 p.m. to be precise, a dramatic incident occurred on the A3 between Limburg and Diez: a mobile home caught fire. According to Messages Today, several road users immediately reported the police after they noticed the fire.
The fire brigade operation turned out to be necessary because when the first emergency services arrived, the mobile home was already fully engulfed in flames. Two motorcycles that were inside the vehicle were also on fire. However, with a massive extinguishing attack using respiratory protection and two C-pipes, the fire department was able to quickly bring the fire under control, as Bild reports.
Closures and damage
The A3 was completely closed in both directions for around an hour during the operation. The bombardment of flames required the motorway in the direction of Cologne to be completely closed. Only after the extinguishing and post-extinguishing work had been completed, during which the fire site was also checked with a thermal imaging camera, could two of three lanes towards Cologne and all lanes towards Frankfurt be reopened.
The two occupants, a 62-year-old driver from Pforzheim and his 59-year-old passenger, were taken to hospital with minor injuries - the driver suffered burns to his right forearm and the passenger was treated for smoke inhalation. However, both were soon able to be discharged from the hospital on an outpatient basis, reports Nachrichten Today.
Cause still unclear
What ultimately triggered the incident is currently unclear. The police have started an investigation to clarify the cause of the fire. Little is known about the exact details, but such fires are not an isolated incident. According to current statistics on the causes of fire damage, there are numerous factors that can lead to vehicle fires.
The amount of damage to the burned mobile home and the road is estimated at around 100,000 euros. Such incidents always require careful monitoring and appropriate safety precautions. The circumstances leading to such fires continue to be carefully investigated by the authorities.
