Military jet crashes into school in Dhaka: 19 dead and many injured!
A shocking incident occurred today in the Uttara district of Dhaka, Bangladesh: a military plane crashed shortly after take-off, killing at least 19 people, including the pilot. This is reported by [PZ-News](https://www.pz-news.de/home_artikel,-Militaer Flugzeug-auf-Schule-gestuerzt-19-Tote-in-Bangladesch-_arid,2244537.html). What is quite tragic is that the accident occurred just as there were many children and parents around at Milestone School and College as classes were just ending.
When the plane, a Chinese F-7 BGI training jet, crashed, witnesses saw a massive fireball and a thick cloud of smoke form as the plane crashed into a two-story school building. Over 164 people were injured, many of them with serious burn injuries and had to be treated immediately in hospitals. Fire chiefs reported the dramatic scenes as the injured were taken away on stretchers and in rickshaws.
Cause of accident and reactions
The exact circumstances of the crash are still unclear. The pilot reportedly noticed technical problems and attempted to steer to a less populated area. However, he was unable to do this because the aircraft caused considerable damage upon impact, as Süddeutsche Zeitung also reports. Interim Prime Minister Muhamad Yunus expressed dismay and announced that the government would launch an investigation and take relief measures for those affected.
Airplane data
The F-7 BGI model is a training jet operated by the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) and built by China's Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group. According to Defense Update Bangladesh, the aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics and can carry a variety of weapons, including air-to-air missiles and precision-guided bombs. Still, the BAF has 32 of these jets in its arsenal, used primarily as interceptor models while it works toward more modern fighter aircraft such as the Su-30SME.
The tragedy in Dhaka once again shows the risks associated with operating military aircraft. While local aviation recreation remains a priority, safety remains paramount and the upcoming investigations are being pursued at full speed. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
