Pforzheim Youth Theater impresses at the international festival in Osijek!
An exciting cultural exchange recently took place as part of the 24th International German-Speaking Theater Festival in Osijek, Croatia, in which two youth theater groups from Pforzheim took part. The groups, JungeBühne31 from the youth meeting and youth education center Kupferdächle and the youth theater ensemble EigenArt from the Osterfeld cultural center, brought a total of 18 participants with them on the trip, which lasted 16 hours with the Flixbus. The festival offered not only performances, but also workshops and valuable insights into the history of Osijek.
The festival is all about cultural exchange across national borders. It promotes the German language and culture as well as the preservation of minority identity. Participating theater groups also came from Croatia, Serbia, Poland and Hungary, which further stimulated intercultural exchange. Frank Willmann from Kultur im Osterfeld e.V. emphasized the importance of growing together and learning about the German-speaking minorities in Europe. The participants' testimonials speak of unforgettable experiences and new contacts made.
A varied program
The third day of the festival was particularly lively: theater workshops led by well-known theater teachers and actors offered the young people the opportunity to learn new skills. Rehearsals took place in the afternoon before the performances took place in the evening. The highlights were the in-house productions such as “Die Blümchen” and “Verwandlungsvirus”, which were created by the local groups themselves.
There were also performances by groups from other countries, including the piece “BUNBURY or NO WEDDING WITHOUT ERNST” from Timișoara, Romania, which particularly thrilled the participants at JungeBühne31.
Unique opportunity for cultural exchange
Participation in the theater festival was a unique opportunity for everyone involved not only to demonstrate their acting talent, but also to get to know the cultures of their European neighbors. The Pforzheim theater groups returned with numerous new cultural impressions.
The 24th International German Language Theater Festival not only contributed to the promotion of theater art, but also provided decisive impetus for cultural cooperation in Europe. In the context of other theater events, such as Bad Hersfeld Festival or that PLUG&PAY Theater Festival, shows once again how lively and diverse the theater landscape is in Germany and beyond.
For the young people from Pforzheim, their stay in Osijek remains an unforgettable experience with many valuable contacts and memories that will hopefully accompany them in their artistic careers.
