Fewer Germans are migrating to the USA: sharp decline in 2023!

Travel movements between Germany and the USA are showing an interesting development this year. Very recently, and this cannot be overlooked, the figures for both emigration from Germany to the USA and for return migration from the USA to Germany have taken significant turns. The trend has reached us: From January to September 2023, only 17,100 people moved from Germany to the United States. That is 18% less than in the same period last year, in which 20,800 Germans dared to take the step, as pz-news reports. These numbers show a decline that marks the lowest level since 2021.

But it's not just a decline in emigrants. Migration in the opposite direction has gained momentum. During the same period, over 19,300 people moved from the USA to Germany, an increase of 3.4%. This means that for the first time since 2021, more people are moving from the USA to Germany than in the other direction. You could almost say that Germany is once again becoming the place to go for many who are looking for new perspectives.

Tourism in transition

The land entry register also shows that at the same time the number of passengers traveling to the USA fell by 1.3%, which corresponds to around 67,200 passengers. A clear sign that despite the popularity, the currents have started to move.
