Big step for the energy transition: Solar park starts in Worblingen!
A new solar park will soon change the face of the region around Worblingen in the Konstanz district. The groundbreaking ceremony for this promising project, which is being realized by the company solarcomplex from Singen, took place on Wednesday. The investment amounts to around 3.5 million euros and the result will be a sizeable area of around six hectares, which is equivalent to around seven football fields. Around 11,000 solar modules will be installed here, enabling annual electricity generation of around 6.5 megawatts. This means that half of the electricity needs of the more than 12,000 residents of the Rielasingen-Worblingen community can be covered. The commissioning of the solar park is planned for August 2025, with the electricity being sold directly to the Schussental Technical Works in Ravensburg. This is a further step in the solar offensive, which is now opening a new chapter in the region, as SWR reports.
But what makes this location so attractive? The solar park will be located on district road 6158 between Worblingen and Überlingen, in an area that is considered almost ideal. The area is not visible from the street and is located 400 to 450 meters from the nearest residential development, which on the one hand ensures the quality of life of the residents and on the other hand enables the construction projects to progress smoothly. The site itself was previously used for gravel mining and building rubble and is therefore all the more suitable for sustainable redevelopment. Another important point is that there is no floor sealing provided under the module tables. Water protection is maintained, especially in a water protection area. As Südkurier informs, the area will also be converted into species-rich grassland and pasture for sheep.
A new wind for the energy transition
In a nationwide context, the solar park in Worblingen is just one of many steps towards the energy transition. According to the Federal Environment Agency, 22.4% of gross final energy consumption in Germany was already covered by renewable energies in 2024, which represents a pleasing increase. By 2030, this share is expected to rise to 41%. Photovoltaics plays an important role here: in 2024, over 74 billion kilowatt hours were generated by solar energy, an increase of 16% compared to the previous year. Numerous other projects are being planned, including four more solar parks in the Konstanz district in Tengen-Wiechs, Tengen, Konstanz-Dingelsdorf and Engen-Zimmerholz, which will further push the region with clean energies, as Umweltbundesamt notes.
The rush by communities to expand their share of renewable energy not only shows a change in energy production, but also a certain rethinking in society. More and more citizens are realizing that it is time to take responsibility for the environment. And with every new solar park that is built, the light for the future shines a little further. It remains exciting to see how quickly the region masters its path to a sustainable energy future.
