Karate star Johanna Kneer shines with gold and honors in Ravensburg!

It was a brilliant evening in the Ravensburg town hall when the 27-year-old karateka Johanna Kneer was immortalized in the city's Golden Book on December 18, 2025. This award is a true honor for people who stand out through outstanding achievements. Weekly newspaper news reports that the reception by Mayor Dr. Daniel Rapp and Karlheinz Beck, chairman of the Ravensburg Sports Association. The atmosphere was festive and there were numerous guests in attendance, including Kneer's coach Lazar Bošković.

Johanna Kneer, who began her karate journey at the KJC Ravensburg at the tender age of six, has made a name for herself in the sports world. In 2025 she won several medals: gold at the World Games in China and again gold at the World Championships in Egypt. In doing so, she made history, as this was the first World Cup individual gold medal for a German kumite athlete since 2002. Her outstanding performance in Cairo, where she won the decisive fight against Kazakh Sofya Berlutseva with a clear 8-0, will be remembered for a long time.

Invitation to the European Championships

In her speech, Kneer not only reported on her sporting successes, but also on her social commitment. She invited everyone present to visit the 2026 European Karate Championships in Frankfurt am Main. This will take place from May 20th to 24th and will feature young talents and experienced fighters alike. The event will take place in a hall with a capacity of around 2,000 visitors. Tickets are already available – 19.90 euros for the preliminary round days and 24.90 euros for the final days.

The importance of karate world championships

The World Karate Championships are a significant event in the karate community and are organized by the World Karate Federation, a recognized association of the International Olympic Committee. The first World Championships were held in Tokyo in 1970, and competitions have been held every two years since 1980. The women's competitions have been part of this competition since 1980. Kneer's successes underline the growing importance of German karate on the international stage.
