Towerstar's lost victory in the derby! Kaufbeuren triumphs 4:3

The Ravensburg Towerstars lost the first Allgäu-Oberschwaben derby of the season against ESV Kaufbeuren 3-4 on October 11, 2025. The stadium, the “energie schwaben arena”, which was sold out with 3,100 euphoric fans, experienced a thrilling game that was dominated by Ravensburg until the 53rd minute. The game started with a brisk phase in which both teams had numerous chances. Joe Cassetti scored the first goal for Kaufbeuren in the 10th minute, but just 43 seconds later Robbie Czarnik equalized for Ravensburg.

In the middle section there was a tense fist fight between Fabio Sarto and Fabian Koziol. Kaufbeuren was able to take the lead again in the 27th minute thanks to a mistake in Ravensburg's build-up by Alec Zawatsky. But this lead didn't last long either: Czarnik equalized in the 32nd minute, and Erik Karlsson even gave Ravensburg a 3-2 lead in the 36th minute.

Injuries and drama in the final section

However, the final section turned into a drama. Matej Mrazek was injured and had to be taken to hospital, causing unrest in the Ravensburg team. Max Hadraschek took advantage of the opportunity and equalized for Kaufbeuren in the 51st minute. Then, 68 seconds before the end, Jere Laaksonen put the guests on the road to victory with the score 4:3. Ravensburg could no longer make up the deficit, although a dangerous situation arose 44 seconds before the final whistle.

After the game, coach Bo Subr was disappointed by the mistakes in crucial phases and pointed out the multi-faceted challenge resulting from injury-related absences. Defender Florin Ketterer had to watch because of an injury that will probably keep him out of action for two to six weeks. The opponents also have to contend with injury concerns: Max Oswald will be out for at least eight weeks. In this respect, it is a challenging time for both teams.

Health and sport: Injury risks in ice hockey

Injuries in ice hockey are an ever-present topic. As the Atos Clinics report, defenders are particularly vulnerable, with a 72.1% chance of getting injured in a season. Most injuries occur in possession of the puck or in one-on-one situations, so it is not surprising that a player like Mrazek was injured in this hectic final phase. The health of the players is therefore a central issue for the entire team, as almost 19% of all injuries affect the head, which often leads to long downtimes.

Despite the mood of crisis, time does not seem to be lost for the Ravensburgers. Head coach Bo Subr noticed positive energy with his team in the final training session the week before, which shows that there is hope for further success. The next big test is on Sunday against league leaders Kassel, where Subr remains confident: “We have worked on ourselves and are ready to dictate our game.”

It will be crucial for the Ravensburg Towerstars to learn from the mistakes they have made and to make the upcoming encounters successful. First it is important to heal the wounds from the derby before the next attack on the table positions is launched.
