Rudersberg Home Days: A new community spirit emerges from rubble!
The Rudersberg community is celebrating its home days with great joy these days, which also marks the 50th anniversary of the community's formation. Colorful festivities took place last weekend under the motto “From us – for us”, which focuses on the local community. After a devastating flood in June 2024, which presented many residents with great challenges, the people of Rudersberg experienced a festival that gained new momentum from the rubble of the disaster. According to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten, the people in Rudersberg bravely worked their way out of the difficulties and put together a festival that brings people together and exudes togetherness.
A marquee was erected for the first time in 25 years, underlining the positive mood during the event. Around 1,000 visitors flocked to the festival to celebrate with the band Voxx-Club. Mayor Raimon Ahrens emphasizes that solidarity and voluntary work were of central importance after the flood disaster. In the large parade with almost 50 groups, you could feel the crusader spirit of the Rudersbergers and their urge to make a difference together.
The return of the Wieslauftalbahn
Another highlight of the festival was the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Wieslauftalbahn. This train has reliably transported passengers between Rudersberg and Schorndorf for 29 years. After the flood last year, which temporarily paralyzed operations, it has been able to offer its services again since April 2024. The festival not only offered local food and drinks, but also a ride on an original Wieslauftalbahn train, which took visitors to the home days, reports the ZVW newspaper.
Reconstruction after the disaster
One year after the flood disaster, the people in Rudersberg are by no means idle. Many have already done a lot of work to eliminate the consequences and erase the traces of the storm. Flooded cellars, washed out streets and destroyed bridges are part of the challenges that have already been overcome. According to a report by Mein Stuttgart, the damage amounts to over 120 million euros. Private households, businesses and public buildings are particularly affected. Nevertheless, the citizens have decided to rebuild their community and are not discouraged.
No matter how different the individual stories are, people fight side by side. Butcher Werner Hinderer, for example, reports on the millions of dollars in damage to his newly renovated butcher shop, but is still determined to continue working for his community. “Nobody gave up,” emphasizes firefighter Robin Wenz. This lack of despair is part of the Rudersberg motto and is also evident at festivals that strengthen cohesion and challenge the community.
Mastering the challenges together
“We need solidarity,” emphasizes Mayor Ahrens, because the reconstruction and the upcoming tasks have not yet been completed. A new dam project that opened shortly before the floods has shown that Rudersberg is not immune to extreme weather events. However, citizens are determined to face the challenges and rebuild their community. A street festival in Klaffenbach is intended to further strengthen cohesion and show that togetherness counts in Rudersberg.
For more information on progress and upcoming work in the community, official channels are available. It is an impressive picture of resilience and community spirit that emerges here. The people of Rudersberg are ready to roll up their sleeves and regain their usual quality of life step by step.
