Fasnet 2026: Submit the fool's timetable for the region now!

The Fasnet session is quickly approaching, and the anticipation is already palpable! On January 6th, shortly after Epiphany, the first events herald the foolish season. The popular tradition, which is primarily rooted in southwest Germany and central Switzerland, lives from the typical “larvae,” the colorful masks that the participants wear. The Swabian-Alemannic carnival is not only a colorful hustle and bustle, but also a piece of living culture, which was included in the nationwide register of intangible cultural heritage in 2014, as Wikipedia reports.

The local newspaper GEA has announced that the fool's timetable for the Fasnet session will be published this year. The traditional publication at the turn of the year offers an overview of the carnival dates in the region. Clubs, guilds and carnival fans are asked to collect this information: the event details should be sent by email to fasnet@gea.de by Sunday, December 21st at the latest. Information such as the hosting club, the name of the event, date and time is necessary. This information forms the basis for the fools' timetable, which, according to GEA, is of great importance for fools in order to maintain firmly anchored traditions.

Not only is the community lived, but also the traditions that go back to the Middle Ages and have developed over the centuries.

What makes Fasnet so special?

Carnival is essentially a return to old traditions and a celebration of life. The jester wearers often preserve their costumes across generations, contributing to the continuity of this living culture. The many different characters, such as devils, witches and Narri-Narro, ensure happy faces every year. All of this creates a wonderfully colorful backdrop for a time of fun and communal joy that people look forward to all year round.

The conviviality of the carnival, the community and the celebration of vivre la joie are also the reasons why anticipation for the next dates is so popular in the region. We can only hope that all the fools prepare well and dust off their costumes in time - a custom that is traditionally celebrated on Epiphany!

So, dear fools: Get ready for an unforgettable Fasnet 2026!
