Police arrest migrant group after riot in Ludwigshafen Peace Park!

In Ludwigshafen there was a major police operation in the Peace Park on Saturday afternoon, September 27, 2025. At approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to an incident involving several people. Witness statements indicate that some of these people were a group of three to four migrants. This operation led the police to bring some of those involved to the ground and restrain them. There is currently no official information about the exact background to the incident, while the investigation is still ongoing and the witness statements need to be evaluated. The MRN-News announced follow-up reporting.

A week earlier, on September 20, 2025, the police had to intervene in tumultuous scenes at the immigration office in the city of Ludwigshafen. These incidents took place in Hemshof, on Mottstrasse, and led to violent scuffles between customers. Insults towards administrative staff were not uncommon, which led to the authority having to close early to the public twice. The Rheinpfalz reported on the aggressive behavior of those involved.

Background on migration and crime

The events in Ludwigshafen highlight the debate about migration and its perception in society. While the public often talks about an increase in crime due to immigration, research shows that this is not the case. Despite an increase in the foreign population by over 70 percent in the last two decades, the number of crimes in Germany has tended to decrease. According to the Media Service Integration, the number of crimes fell by around 16 percent between 2005 and 2019, while violent crimes fell by 15 percent. However, it should be noted that the increase in crime rates following the coronavirus pandemic is due to catch-up effects and economic stress.

The statistics show that around 41.8 percent of the suspects in 2024 were foreign. It should be noted that demographic factors, such as the average age and gender of migrants, correlate with higher crime rates. Many foreign nationals live in areas with high levels of crime, which also increases the risk of becoming involved in crime themselves.

It is repeatedly reported that the media focuses on a disproportionate number of foreign suspects in their reports. This leads to the perception of a higher risk from migration, even though accurate data shows that violent acts largely occur among non-Germans. The situation in Ludwigshafen could therefore not just be an isolated case, but is exemplary for a broader discussion about migration, integration and the associated challenges in society.
