Circus Charles Knie delights Rottweil with a spectacular show!
Rottweil is currently the setting for an impressive event that will not only make the hearts of circus lovers beat faster. The Circus Charles Knie sets up its tents here and presents a true spectacle with the show “100,000 liters of emotions”. The tent can be seen on the festival site at the Rottweil town hall until Sunday. The first performance on Wednesday lunchtime was already very popular - more than 1,000 spectators came to experience the performances.
The tent, which has proud 16 meter high masts, offers space for 1,260 spectators and is pleasantly air-conditioned, even in the summer temperatures. In order to make the large-scale event possible, considerable logistical effort was necessary: 46 semi-trailers and 15 tractors transport over 100 employees, including 40 artists from nine different nations.
A look behind the scenes
Among the impressive artists is the renowned “Dezhou Acrobatic Troupe” from China, which delights the audience with breathtaking hoop jumping and diabolo numbers. The artists had already rehearsed in Einbeck for three weeks in advance of the tour in order to captivate the audience with perfect performances. Beyond the animal training - the circus relies on two impressive performances with dogs and parrots - there are no lions, tigers or elephants in the show. The music that accompanies the performances was even recorded by Ukrainian musicians who were unable to leave the country due to the war.
The circus director Sascha Melnjak hopes for a total of 10,000 visitors during their stay in Rottweil. This makes the total of 12,600 places available particularly desirable. Performances run daily from August 13th to 16th at 4 and 8 p.m., with one last chance to experience the spectacle on August 17 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Musikbox Rottweil and at Reservix ticket offices, and the circus box offices open their doors every day from 10 a.m.
The history of the Charles Knie circus
The Circus Charles Knie was founded in 1995 by Charles and Dorina Knie. Charles Knie, a member of the traditional Knie circus dynasty, which was founded in Austria in 1806, has set new standards with this circus. His family business has continued to develop and now offers a large circus revue that attracts around 500,000 visitors every year. Over the years, the circus has distinguished itself not only through modern programs, but also through special events, such as the Gay Circus Night, which aims to promote social cohesion.
The company, whose administration is based in Lower Saxony, has had a unique journey that ranges from historical moments to comprehensive modernization. It was Charles Knie who bought a new tent in 2008 and breathed new life into the circus. Even though there have been allegations of animal welfare in the past, the artists stand behind the statement that the animals are bred and no wild animals are caught.
As one of the three largest circus companies in Germany, the Charles Knie Circus travels to around 50 cities every year, and has done so since its founding as a “magical circus” with great attention to illusion and animal training. Times have changed and the program is increasingly balanced towards water shows and artistry with dogs and parrots, so that the animal husbandry in the show is reduced to the essentials.
Enjoy an unforgettable circus show and let yourself be carried away by the magic and emotions that the Charles Knie circus has to offer.
