Shots in Mannheim: Life-threatening wound in kiosk attack!

In Mannheim, residents are happy about a quick solution to a shocking incident. After a 39-year-old man was shot in a kiosk on Saturday evening, in which he suffered life-threatening injuries, the police are now looking for the perpetrator. The incident, which happened in the city center, is causing unrest among citizens. Crime has not exactly decreased in Germany, including Mannheim, as the most recently published police crime statistics show. Violent crime here rose 1.5% to 217,277 cases in 2024, the highest level since 2007, and citizens' concerns seem justified when you look at the statistics. However, acts of such violence have become commonplace in recent years. Particularly alarming is the 11.3% increase in child suspects to 13,755, according to BKA.

Another issue that concerns people in Mannheim is the meter-high piles of scrap that have been burning in the industrial port since Friday. Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire until the evening of August 8, 2025, to ensure that the fire could be extinguished at night. The mayor praised the emergency services for their quick and effective operation, which fortunately resulted in no injuries. However, the police have not yet been able to provide any information about the amount of damage or the cause of the fire. The smoke traveled as far as Frankfurt and also caused odor nuisances in southern Hesse. n-tv reported on the warnings from the Federal Office for Civil Protection, which informed residents about the warning apps.

Positive news from the region

But not everything is shocking news. VfB Stuttgart was able to achieve an important victory against 1. FC Heidenheim last weekend, with a narrow 1-0 win. New signing Bilal El Khannous secured the victory and the points in the 65th minute, which now earn VfB a place in the Champions League qualification.

And while Stuttgart shines in sport, there are also encouraging developments in society. Two missing children from Lahr, a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, have resurfaced after almost three weeks. The police had already been looking for the siblings on September 16th because they were supposed to be taken into care due to child endangerment. Now, fortunately, they are well again, as Tagesschau reports. This positive news at least brings a ray of hope in a time marked by many challenges.

Traffic stops and court decisions

A Europe-wide road traffic inspection week also begins this week. Particular attention is paid to the use of electronic devices and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Here we can only hope that all road users have a good hand for their safety.

Finally, the verdicts against a former CDU member of the Bundestag and two men who attacked several senior women are pending in Munich. These trials show that the judiciary continues to take decisive action against crime and injustice.
