Mayor Ehm announces renewed candidacy after challenges!

At a lively local council meeting that took place recently, the topic of the indoor swimming pool at the Brüder-Scholl School was the focus of the citizens' question time. A committed citizen contacted the mayor directly Marcus Ehm and criticized the limited accessibility of the teaching pool for the general public. Ehm responded with a laugh and an affirmation, signaling his renewed candidacy for the upcoming mayoral elections scheduled for June or July 2026.

In his statement, Ehm emphasized that the city has made progress despite the challenges posed by the corona pandemic and financial constraints. “We have strengthened the tourism situation, built new hotels and prevented major vacancies in the city center,” he said, highlighting the successes of his time in office.

Planned projects and challenges

Dr. Ehm has ambitious plans for the future: He wants to create new living space, make the train station barrier-free and build a new customs school. His goal is also to bring new companies to the city. At the same time, he is not blind to the setbacks that have occurred, especially the financial difficulties of the municipal utilities and the withdrawal of the Schwimmen Kern company. These setbacks motivate him to do things better.

However, the challenges appear to be not just political. Ehm has also suffered health setbacks in recent months. Since July 2024, he had been suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, which was caused by shingles on his face, and had to undergo treatment at the SRH Hospital in Sigmaringen for two weeks. The associated pain and ongoing medication often made it difficult for him to reach his full potential. “I was often tired and unfocused,” admits Ehm, who still tried to keep up with his external appointments.

Rehabilitation and return

In order to be able to recover better, Ehm will begin a rehabilitation measure lasting several weeks in a specialized clinic from January 20, 2025, which is tailored to his clinical picture. Additional pain therapy should help promote healing. During his absence will First alderman Manfred Storrer run the business in the town hall. Ehm plans to start working seamlessly upon his return.

With all of these developments in the background, it remains to be seen how the citizens of Sigmaringen will assess the upcoming mayoral election and the future projects under Ehm's leadership. One thing is clear, however: the course is set and the mayor is determined to tackle the challenges and move the city forward.
