Prana-tec reports bankruptcy: Withdrawal from Hymer hits Ostrach supplier!
The insolvency of Prana-tec GmbH, a specialized supplier of mobile homes, is causing a stir in the Ostrach region. The company filed for bankruptcy on September 1, 2025 after having to cope with the withdrawal of its largest customer, the mobile home manufacturer Hymer. The situation worsened dramatically for Prana-tec as the order was reduced from the original 800 to just 300 units per year, which was no longer profitable for the company. Mercury reports that this reduction significantly led to the insolvency and excessive indebtedness, which now made bankruptcy necessary.
The insolvency administrator, lawyer Michael Winterhoff from Ulm, will take care of the distribution of the remaining assets. Bitter for the 16 affected employees: They were already laid off at the end of July 2025 and the prospect of new employment remains uncertain. The managing director, who would like to keep his identity anonymous, said that many medium-sized companies in Germany are currently struggling with massive survival problems. Swabian also reports on the challenges caused by high energy prices and bureaucracy, which force many companies to relocate their production abroad.
Growing wave of insolvencies
Prana-tec's bankruptcy is not isolated. The German economy is facing a wave of insolvencies caused by numerous factors. According to a report by German business news The number of corporate bankruptcies rose by 30 percent in 2024 and is expected to be even higher in 2025. Sectors such as automotive suppliers, mechanical engineering and the construction industry are particularly affected.
Demographic developments, the rising costs of energy and personnel as well as the ongoing uncertainty in the economy contribute to this bleak balance. Around 541,000 business owners are thinking about closing in the next five years, of which 231,000 are planning for 2025. The shortage of skilled workers and the lack of successors are further challenges that many businesses have to deal with.
The way forward
The managing director of Prana-tec sees little chance of winning new customers in the short term and expresses regret about the layoffs of his long-term employees, many of whom have already found new jobs. This situation reflects the big picture that many medium-sized companies find themselves in: survive or give up. Many entrepreneurs urgently want political measures to improve the framework conditions and support small and medium-sized businesses.
A large number of companies are currently confronted with the clear message: Something has to be done so that the backbone of the German economy - medium-sized businesses - does not become further ill.
