New shine for Trossingen's Rudolf-Maschke-Platz: ideas in focus!
In Trossingen, Rudolf-Maschke-Platz is the focus of urban development. On June 5th, around 100 citizens took part in a workshop to submit their ideas for increasing the attractiveness of the square. Maximilian Stamm and Nathalie Popovic from the Translake agency were tasked with structuring the collected suggestions into nine theses. The local council presented this at a recent meeting and the feedback was varied.
Citizen participation is a central element in urban development, as the Citizen Society portal also emphasizes. This is not just about aesthetic design, but also about social, economic and ecological issues and communication between citizens and communities.
The workshop and the ideas
The feedback from the workshop was moving. A central thesis was the year-round usability of the space, which should be attractive in both winter and summer. 15 of 24 local councilors approved the idea, while Mayor Susanne Irion gave sensitive advice that the square did not require expensive structural work for an ice rink. Although people were happy about the design with trees and flowers, there were concerns that it could affect events such as the Whitsun market and weekly market.
A big point in the discussion was the inclusion of water experiences, such as small streams or water features, which were overwhelmingly received positively. In addition, a drinking water fountain has already been included in the planning.
For all generations and a meeting place
The square should be a social meeting place for young and old without any pressure to consume. However, the local council members showed great reservations about the proposals for playground equipment and sports activities for children and young people - 13 out of 24 voted against. However, there was approval for more gastronomic offerings. However, concerns remained that finding suitable operators for the new restaurant could be challenging.
The desire to have cultural events take place at Rudolf-Maschke-Platz was also well received, although some city councilors expressed concerns about noise and the location. A proposal from Daniel Link (CDU) to create more space for local clubs to host on the square was positively received.
Traffic and parking spaces in sight
Another key point is the traffic redesign of the square. The number of parking spaces should be retained here, although some city councilors are calling for a reduction to create more space for pedestrians. The next community workshop on Rudolf-Maschke-Platz will again be moderated by the Translake agency on September 25th. On this evening, all interested citizens are cordially invited to contribute their ideas and suggestions. It remains exciting to see how the popular square can continue to be designed as a central location for weekly markets and events, including the traditional fair.
Rudolf-Maschke-Platz will not only be a meeting place, but also an example of successful citizen participation that will help increase the quality of life for all Trossingers.
