New Netto supermarket in Seitingen-Oberflacht: construction will start soon!
A lot is happening in the tranquil community of Seitingen-Oberflacht: A new Netto food market is being built between the two districts, including an attractive bakery-café and a butcher's shop. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2024 and the opening is expected to take place a year later. This not only provides the community with regional products, but also revitalizes local supplies, which is often a challenge in rural areas. Mayor Jürgen Buhl announced the demolition of the old Nahkauf building, which was closed in April 2024. After a long period of standstill on the property, the community's citizens are looking forward to fresh shopping opportunities.
The Schneckenburger family, known for their bakery in Tuttlingen, has already found a successor for the market. Lease agreements have been signed and preparations for construction are in full swing. The planned building will have a floor space of approximately 1,700 square meters, of which 1,100 square meters will be retail space. In total, customers can look forward to a range of around 5,000 items, including drinks. A big attraction will be the 30-seat bakery café, where visitors will also find a fresh butcher shop.
Important infrastructure measures
A special feature will be the parking lot with 62 spaces, which will be built next to the new market. To ensure that the journey to the new discount store is optimal, the municipal administration is planning new traffic adjustments. A crossing aid on Oberflachter Straße and a left-turn lane to the market are intended to ensure safety and comfort for shoppers. The access remains in its original location so that everything remains easily accessible.
The background to the new settlements is the effort to improve local supplies in rural areas. Many smaller shops have had to close in recent years, making access to food difficult for some citizens, especially older and less mobile people. This issue is also being addressed at the federal political level. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture promotes numerous initiatives to strengthen rural infrastructure with projects such as “LandVersorge – New ways to provide local supplies in rural areas”.
Support for local businesses
Additional initiatives to improve local amenities can be seen in other communities such as Rasdorf. A personal shop opens there under the name tegut…teo. The concept envisages shops being open around the clock, allowing residents to organize their shopping flexibly. Similar efforts are being pursued by other regions that are trying to meet the needs of their citizens through mobile proposals. Locally reported about the challenges and possible solutions to ensure good local supply.
Overall, the example of Seitingen-Oberflacht shows how important it is to keep rural areas vibrant and to offer citizens supplies right on their doorstep. The reopening of the Netto market is a step in the right direction and will most likely trigger a positive response from the population.
