Schwenningen Wild Wings: From victory to defeat – drama against Munich!
In an exciting DEL weekend, the Schwenninger Wild Wings emerge with mixed feelings. On Friday the Wings won their home game against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 5-2, but suffered a narrow defeat against EHC Red Bull Munich on Sunday. In these turbulent times, it's not just the result that counts, but also the comeback of Jordan Szwarz, who returned from Canada after the birth of his second son.
12,559 spectators celebrated in Schwenningen on Friday. After just 61 seconds, the team took the lead through Phil Hungerecker. But the joy didn't last long: In the 8th minute, Evan Barratt equalized for the guests from Nuremberg, and just three minutes later Julius Karrer even gave the Ice Tigers the lead. But the Wild Wings were undeterred and showed fighting spirit. Arkadiusz Dziambor equalized in the second period and Thomas Larkin scored in the 39th minute for a 3-2 lead before the crucial final period.
Wild comeback in Munich
The challenge against EHC Red Bull Munich awaited on Sunday. Despite a promising start and a 3-1 lead after the first third, it wasn't enough to win. Danny O'Reagan initially equalized for the Wild Wings before scoring his second goal in the 20th minute. But in the second third the Munich team turned the game around. First Tobias Rieder reduced the score to 2:3 before Ryan Murphy equalized to 3:3 in the final third. Adam Brooks and Taro Hirose then scored two more goals, which secured the lead for Munich. Zach Senyshyn was able to connect, but the guests were unable to equalize.
After the game there was not only sporting drama, but also physical arguments between the players, which further increased the tension of the encounter. Due to the defeat, the Schwenningen team slipped behind EHC Munich in the table, which does not make the situation any easier for the Wild Wings in the current season. Nuremberg's sports director Stefan Ustorf and coach Mitch O'Keefe were critical of their own team's performance and the last few games. The Swabian reports about the two games in detail.
The next games are coming up and the Wild Wings now have to show that they can overcome the disappointment in Munich. The coming games will show whether Szwarz's comeback gives the team the drive it needs. Fans remain hopeful that the team will quickly get back on the road to success.
