Czech crooks arrested: car theft and arson in Tuttlingen!
Once again we are witnessing a bizarre crime in Germany: two men from the Czech Republic who traveled to Germany with nothing but criminal intentions have now been convicted by the Tuttlingen district court. In a ruling in April 2023, the court gave the 24-year-old defendant two years and two months in prison, while the 34-year-old got off with two years and four months. This is reported by the Swabian newspaper.
The two men had been really into it in the days before their arrest. They committed several carjackings and set fire to one of their stolen vehicles in a fit of destructive rage. The police finally caught them during a high-speed chase near Eutingen im Gäu, where the older of the two was caught after a few meters. His younger accomplice was even located by helicopter. During the police check, they already had tools for further crimes in the getaway car.
Motivation and living conditions
The motivation of the two men to come to Germany from the Czech Republic is clear: according to the judge, they “only and solely” had crimes in mind. They traveled by train to Nuremberg, where they committed their first theft. Hidden valuables were not the target. Their loot consisted of old, worthless things, which added to the absurdity of their actions. When asked about their living conditions, it quickly becomes clear that the two are not only criminals, but also uneducated: they have no school leaving certificate and no vocational training. Her drug addiction also contributes to the dismal outcome.
In court, the 34-year-old confessed his actions and expressed remorse. However, his younger accomplice, who already has a criminal record for property crimes in Germany, was less cooperative. “He didn’t notice anything about the crimes,” said his lawyer and called for an acquittal. The court rejected this request and confirmed the prosecutor's requested sentences.
Crime in Germany at a glance
In the context of such news, it is interesting to know how crime is developing in Germany. According to the Police crime statistics In 2024, crime fell slightly for the first time, by 1.7% to a total of 5,837,445 registered crimes compared to the previous year. This is primarily due to the partial legalization of cannabis, which has led to a noticeable decrease in drug-related crime. Nevertheless, an increasing number of suspects shows that enormous challenges remain. Of particular concern is the 1.5% increase in violent crime, which is the highest level since 2007.
The current incidents are therefore part of a larger social problem. Regardless of nationality or background, it is often devastating living conditions that drive people down crooked paths. The increasing number of non-German suspects, who are responsible for a significant proportion of violent crime, raises questions.
With a look at incidents like the one in Tuttlingen and the chase in Bückeburg, the discussion about crime in Germany seems to be necessary and increasingly present. This is also confirmed by another report from NDR, which documents a spectacular police chase in which drugs were thrown out the window. Such acts not only endanger the lives of those involved, but also pose a significant threat to the general public.
What happens next with security in our cities remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain: a rethink is urgently needed if we want to understand and combat the causes of crime in the long term.
