Roxy beer garden opens: live music and enjoyment until August!

June 18, 2025 will be a special day for music lovers in the region as the Roxy Sound Garden opens its doors. Mareike Welte and Henning Reinholz report on the diverse live music program at the popular beer garden in Ulm. The concept is clear: the different musical genres and artists should offer culture for everyone. It will be particularly exciting this year as booking the bands and artists has become a real challenge due to Brexit.

Almost 30 events are planned in the Roxy's outdoor area until mid-August, and the anticipation is great! The Roxy was already named “best beer garden in the region” in 2022. The Soundgarten has been part of the cultural center's annual program for six years and attracts guests with its delicious cuisine, beautiful ambience and free concerts.

Cultural diversity in the sound garden

The musical program is a real mix of genres: Psychedelic Latin Fusion, Afrobeat with Rumba and indie hits are on the list. But not everything is going smoothly, as Brexit is having a significant impact on the culture and events sector. Although the federal government has not yet presented any reliable figures on the impact on the German cultural and events industry, it is assuming that there will be additional burdens. This particularly concerns cross-border participation in events, which poses challenges for many British musicians as touring Europe increasingly appears to be financially unviable for them. These issues could impact attendance and diversity at the Roxy Sound Garden if bands no longer choose to perform.

An example of this is that the territorial protection of festivals makes bookings for smaller concert series such as the Soundgarten more difficult. A planned act has already had to be removed from the program because of these provisions. The beer garden opens on June 18th and the concerts take place Wednesday to Saturday from 5 p.m. In case of bad weather, the concerts are moved indoors, which also ensures guests have a front row seat.

An insider tip for music lovers

The Roxy beer garden can accommodate up to 600 people, but seat reservations are not possible. An insider tip from Mareike Welte is the “Ein Rosenkavalier” concert on July 23rd. So if you're looking for a cozy evening full of music, the Soundgarten is the perfect place for it. Access to these cultural highlights is free and allows everyone to enjoy the musical diversity that the Roxy Sound Garden has to offer.

Overall, it remains to be seen how the situation surrounding the British musicians will develop. The German Cultural Council has already dealt with the effects of Brexit on German-British cultural relations. Concerns about possible restrictions on cultural exchange and possible trade barriers for cultural goods cast a major shadow over the future of cultural cooperation between Germany and Great Britain. However, the signs are promising: even in these challenging times, the offerings in the Roxy Soundgarten remain diverse and inviting.
