The world of midwives has reason to be happy again! The 31st Ulm midwifery training will take place on October 18, 2025 in the internal medicine lecture hall of the Ulm University Hospital. This event is aimed at everyone who would like to further their education in the art of midwifery and offers a variety of specialist lectures as well as practical insights that are of great importance for their daily work. Numerous experts have already announced their presence who will present exciting topics, including the dual study program in applied midwifery science at the DHBW Heidenheim, allergy prevention in the delivery room and postpartum period, as well as the psychological challenges after birth.

A special highlight will be the lecture on the tongue tie, where the question will be asked: Is it just a fad or is there more to it? This topic is particularly relevant as more and more professionals recognize the influence tongue tie can have on early childhood development. The speakers in this lecture include Prof. Dr. Elvira Hoffmann, head of the Applied Midwifery Sciences program, and Dr. Ulrike Sailer, an experienced pediatric dentist.

Registration and participation fees

The participation fee is 50 euros for midwives and only 20 euros for midwifery students - a good deal for those who want to expand their knowledge and exchange ideas with colleagues! Registration is still possible until September 30, 2025, and those interested can register by email at hebammen.studiengang@uniklinik-ulm.de.

Further training opportunities

The discussion about tongue ties is not just limited to the Ulm training course. Another important date is the International Tongue Tie Congress, which will take place January 15-17, 2026. Among other things, the treatment of tongue ties without general anesthesia and sutures is presented here, which is of particular interest to many nursing and midwifery professionals. This topic will also be covered in the online training of the Austrian Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, which will take place on three evenings in June 2026.

Additionally, this offers Seminar “Tongue tie – very practical!” Valuable content for lactation consultants, midwives, speech therapists and osteopaths. Here, participants learn how to recognize and treat problems caused by lip or tongue ties at an early stage. The workshop not only offers theoretical knowledge, but also concrete exercise instructions for practice in order to offer parents the best possible support before and after a frenotomy.

In summary, we can say: The next few months have some exciting training opportunities in store that not only expand your own knowledge, but can also sustainably promote children's health. Anyone who works in obstetric practice and breastfeeding advice should put these dates in their calendar!
