The media landscape in Baden-Württemberg is facing a change at the top. Baden-Württemberg reports that Wiebke Wiesner will take over the management of MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg mbH from July 1, 2026. This new appointment ends the 13-year term of office of Carl Bergengruen, who is retiring. Wiesner, who previously worked as deputy managing director of the production alliance, will initially receive a five-year contract.
The decision in favor of Wiesner was welcomed by State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun, who praised her suitability and extensive experience in film funding. Clemens Bratzler from SWR also emphasized the importance of this personnel decision for the media and creative industries in the region. Wiesner plans to further develop funding in the areas of film, VFX and games and also focus on the regional cultural and creative industries.
Overview of Wiebke Wiesner's career
Since February 2023, Wiesner has worked as general counsel and deputy managing director of the production alliance. In May 2025, she took over interim management and brought with her a lot of experience from previous positions. Among other things, she worked at the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and played a key role in the promotion of games there. She also negotiated the first AI collective agreement in Germany and is a deputy member of the FFA board of directors.
Wiesner brings with him a lot of know-how that is important for the future challenges in the media industry. Her predecessor can look back on an exciting time in which, among other things, she significantly influenced the development of media funding in Baden-Württemberg.
