Art in the KulTurm: Roland Milkau and the new Albstadt artist group
Exciting things are happening in the art scene in Albstadt! Next Friday, November 7th, the first exhibition of the new artist group “Group 24” opens in the KulTurm. Let's take a look at the roots of this creative movement and the promising works that visitors can expect.
Roland Milkau, an accomplished art educator and artist from Albstadt, will play a central role in this group. After a groundbreaking training course that he began full-time in the Bauhaus style in 1973, Milkau not only taught at various schools, but also rekindled his passion for painting in retirement. From 2015 onwards he started painting part-time at the University of Leipzig and has been experimenting with different techniques in his studio ever since. His works address political and social contexts and are already represented in the Albstadt Art Museum, where several of his works have been included in the collection.
Diversity in art
“Group 24” brings together around 20 artists, including both academics and self-taught artists. Some of the well-known names include Andreas Chr. Beck, Karin Beck and Bruno Schlagenhauf, who will present their works at the opening on Saturday, July 27th at 5 p.m. Schlagenhauf emphasizes that there is a great need to make local art in Albstadt more visible. In the past, many artists had few opportunities to present their work.
The exhibition is entitled “Expression-S-Forms” and is accompanied by music by Oksana Stechyshyn on the electric piano. Dr. Kai Hohenfeld will give the introduction and set the scene for this evening. This initiative, which is being implemented with the support of funding, is intended to provide a platform for cultural exchange in Albstadt for a year and a half. In today's world, contact with one's own artistic roots is of great importance.
Cultural encounter
Last but not least, the location where the exhibition takes place is also important - a temporary gallery has been created on the upper floor of a former fashion house, which is available as a space for the artists. This contact point was urgently needed, as the head of the cultural office, Martin Roscher, confirmed. Citizens have brought the desire for such a space for artists to the administration in order to enable better understanding and exchange in the art scene.
Milkau emphasizes that there was a lack of suitable places for encounters with local art. “Group 24” would like to maintain the cultural offerings in Albstadt beyond the funding period. The creative potential of the region is great, and the exhibition offers a wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into the diversity of local art.
The first exhibition of “Group 24” runs until August 11th and promises to be a highlight for all art lovers in the region. Anyone who has the opportunity should not miss this event. A visit is worth it in every respect!
Full details of the event can be found on the group's website: group-24.de.
