Zell im Wiesental: Resistance to new recycling center location!
Zollernalbkreis plans to move the Zell recycling center by the end of 2025. Location changes and resistance from residents are in focus.

Zell im Wiesental: Resistance to new recycling center location!
An important change is imminent in Zell im Wiesental: The local recycling center has to move because the existing contract with the landlord Ralf Kiefer expires on December 31, 2025. The negotiations about a contract extension were, well, not easy and ultimately led to this decision. The good news is that a new potential location was found on the Benninger site in July, but the suitability of this location is still being assessed.
A crucial point here is the access situation and traffic routing, which are responsible for the residents. They are clearly skeptical about the planned expansion of the recycling center. In addition, the right of passage to the new area has not yet been clarified, which makes things more complicated. In order to intensify the search for alternatives, the works committee suggested expanding the search radius for a new location.
New options on the table
A newly introduced area is located on the outskirts of Hausen, only 1.5 kilometers from the western outskirts of Zell. This area is designated as a commercial area and has a direct connection to the federal highway. The city of Zell and the municipality of Hausen have already been informed about the developments and have not yet expressed any objections. The committee also decided to rename the recycling center from “Zell im Wiesental” to “Recyclinghof Wiesental”.
In a further step, a discussion is planned with the mayor and other parties involved in order to examine various options for an interim solution. However, experts estimate that a seamless transition to the new recycling center by January 1, 2026 is unlikely. In order to still offer citizens an opportunity to dispose of waste, the opening hours of the neighboring recycling centers in Schönau and Schopfheim should be extended during the transition period.
The role of recycling centers in Germany
Recycling centers are not only important in Zell, they also play a central role in environmentally friendly waste disposal throughout Germany. The recyclinghof.org website makes it clear how important it is to handle waste correctly. The platform provides a wealth of information on addresses, opening times and waste acceptance conditions that citizens may find useful. The delivery system allows users to bring waste to the farms themselves, which benefits both immediate disposal and the protection of personal data.
Another example of increasing public awareness is Recycling Radar, a platform that helps citizens find recycling options in their area more quickly. This platform offers a user-friendly interface with location-based search to find the right disposal points for different types of waste. Proper recycling conserves resources and helps protect the environment - an important concern today.
The conditions that the recycling centers experience as a result of their moves and expansion plans do not only represent local challenges. Rather, they reflect a fundamental problem: the need for clear, effective and sustainable waste management in Germany. If citizens are well informed, they can make a difference and help ensure that waste can be recycled effectively. How do you say so beautifully? Sometimes less is more - and that also applies to our waste!
